Week 3 Learning Journal Post

Part 1: Review and Reflect Learning Strategy

This week, I decided to focus on the strategy of time management, which was one of the skills I had previously mentioned that I needed to improve on. I went over the required link for part 1. One of the ideas that stood up to me was to avoid multitasking. I do multitask a lot, for example, I do homework while I eat, or do homework while I use my phone in bed. It helped me that I created a weekly schedule with my plan for the week, from studying and working times, all the way to break times. I have found it quite helpful. I do not use social media unnecessarily anymore, wasting my time instead of being productive. I know this will help me focus better and manage my time throughout the day.

Part 2: Weekly Readings and Ethics

For this week we focused on ethics. Being ethical in computer science is more than not cheating. It is about being responsible. if I go into cybersecurity, I will be dealing with sensitive information, so I have to be careful, because my work will have a direct impact on others. Going through the material reminded me about the importance of aspects as privacy, security, and transparency. I want to become an auditor, so it is relevant to make ethical decisions when handling sensitive data or when investigating vulnerabilities. I am aware that I will need to speak up and keep things documented. Being honest and transparent has to be my best policy.

Part 3: Reflection on “What a Computer Science Major Needs to Know”

This weeks reading goes above technical concepts, like programing languages, it talks about systems, networks, databases, security, and writing skills. Surprisingly it emphasizes  a lot in communication, both writing  and speaking. I need to improve in certain areas like low-level systems knowledge and algorithms. Throughout my education and experience I have focused mostly on high-level projects. I feel I am in the right path, the reading reassured me that my dream of becoming a cybersecurity auditor is possible, but I need to keep working on it.

Part 4: Code of Integrity Reflection

I read the Code of Integrity, and I read why it matters. I reflect on how it affects my life and will affect my future jobs. As I said, my work will affect others, I might work with medical records, financial information, or government data. I need to handle information correctly to be trusted and avoid consequences. I am a big fan of integrity, I try to follow rules the best way I can. Even with group projects, what I do will affect others, if I do not follow rules, cheat, plagiarize anything, we as a team will pay the consequences. I want to be a person others can look up to.

Part 5: Summarize Your Week on Your Learning Journal

I feel I have had a productive week. I tried to adhere to the schedule I did last week, and I feel I have accomplished more. I also reflect about ethics and integrity, and skills that a CS major should have. I need to improve my communication skills. I have realized that I have to live up to certain standards  and  I believe I am doing well, but I need to improve. It has been a long week, but I am almost done with my assignments, I just have to finish my essay with some minor things and I will be done.

Keeping it up!
